Tipplasty

What is Tipplasty?

Tipplasty also known as Minor Rhinoplasty is a procedure aimed to correct the deformation on the tip asymmetry, wideness, eyelid, nose tip deformity-narrowness. Since the nose is located in the most striking part of the face, the beauty of the nose or an aesthetic looking nose structure increases self-confidence and satisfaction in people. Tipplasty, provides pleasant results for patients who have low or large nasal tip complaints and do not have a nasal hump structure. Tipplasty does not interfere with the nasal bones and cartilage structure. Only the deformities of the nasal tip are corrected.

How Is Tipplasty Performed?

Different methods can be applied according to the needs of the patient in tipplasty.  In the closed method, the operation time is shorter than other techniques and recovery is faster following the operation. In the open method, the experience of the doctor is important as the surgeon’s control area is limited. Here, the competence of the surgeon may be the most important measure for performing the procedure smoothly.

The total rhinoplasty operation takes about 2 to 2.5 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. However, if only the tip of the nose is to be shaped, the operation takes about 30 to 60 minutes depending on the problem of the nose and is performed under local anesthesia. After tipplasty, the patient can be discharged on the same day.

In tipplasty, interventions such as thinning the nose, lifting the nasal tip, changing the angle of the nasal tip, bringing the tip of the nose forward, correcting deformities in the nostrils or eliminating excess in the nostrils can be performed.

Would the Tip Nasal Tip Drop Again After Surgery?

As people age, some downward displacement of facial tissues also occurs and with the effect of gravity, the nasal tip may drop. This type of downward displacement may be seen a little more in some people for reasons such as thick nasal skin, weight loss and structurally low nasal tip. In these people, dropped nasal tip can be seen at an earlier age.

After the surgery, nasal tissues become stiff. Thus, the nose appears to be pushed upwards.

If a person’s skin is thin and if the patient is under the age of 40, a very large change in shape is not expected at the nasal tip. But if the patient is over the age of 40, if skin sagging has started on their face, if the skin structure is thick and the previous nasal structure is too large compared to their face, there may be a slight fall at the tip of the nose. In order to prevent this, transverse skin must also be removed. However, it is not preferred as it can leave a mark in the form of a line. If the skin needs to be removed, it is more important to apply it on the nostrils or the lower point of the nasal tip. Because in this way, no scar remains visible after the operation on the suture line.

Post-Operation Considerations

The plastic splint and tapes on the nose are removed 5 days following the operation.

Heavy sports activities and swimming should be avoided for a few weeks following the operation. Using heavy-framed glasses should be avoided. You should be very careful while brushing the teeth during the recovery. You should avoid sunlight and nose-affecting movements such as snotting. After third week you can start noticing the new shape of your nose. Nose tip takes its new shape around 6 months.
