What Is Facelifting?

Facelift is a viable option to counteract the impact of sun exposure, the stresses of everyday life and gravity start to appear on our faces by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles.

Facelift procedures can be performed for either aesthetic concerns or medical necessities. Facelifts performed with aesthetic concerns are also among the aesthetic operations that are often preferred by women as well as by men. In recent years, operations such as non-surgical face lifting, spider web aesthetics, thread facelifting, and French lift are popular.

Who Can Have Facelifting?

In contrast to common belief, there is actually no age limit for face lifting. One could be a good candidate if he or she feels his or her face is aged and has lost its dynamic as detected after an examination. In addition, since patients lose serious weight after bariatric surgery, these operations may be required for sagging in the face area.

Face lifting procedures may be needed due to deep lines on the forehead and lower eyelid, drooping eyebrows or eyelids, sagging in the middle face, deep lines from the nose to the corner of the lip and the formation of double-chin on the neck area.

How Is Non-Surgical Face Lifting Performed?

When it comes to a non-surgical facelift, almost everyone first thinks of facial bands that can be easily found even on internet sites. But although this practice seems more economical, it does not give a permanent result.

When we say non-surgical facelift, “non-invasive” methods made by applying large interventional procedures to the patient should be considered. Non-surgical facelifts such as botox, filler, laser, cellular therapy are the ones that stand out. Although surgery is not required, it is very important that these procedures are performed in a very hygienic environment by people with expertise. Otherwise, after the application, serious problems such as infection, allergies, as well as the device or medical products used resulting in unintended consequences can be experienced. Applications such as botox, laser, cellular therapy from non-surgical facelifts do not give permanent results.  These applications should be repeated with periods such as 6 months or 1 year.

How Is Surgical Facelifting Performed?

It may be necessary to perform the facelift surgery, in cases such as skin relaxation, sagging deformities, eyelid drooping. When planning the operation, it is important to determine how aging occurs on the face and in what direction deformations occur by looking at the patient’s photos taken when younger, in terms of getting a natural result.

Facelifting does not mean skin stretching. This surgery alone does’nt stretch the sagging skin or correct wrinkles. In fact, with facelifting, ‘facial rejuvenation’ is performed in 3-D with surgery aimed at facial deformities, which are applied to other soft tissues such as fat and muscles along with the skin.

In other words, it is aimed to move the displaced tissues to their normal position in youth and thus to ensure a healthy and young appearance. According to the result needed, surgery can be performed under general anesthesia, local anesthesia or sedation.

According to the surgical technique, the average length of stay in hospital is one or two nights. The stitches are removed after about a week and the recovery time differs depending on the surgical technique. After one to four weeks, the patient can return to work or routine life. After some operations, it can take 3-4 months for all the swelling to recover and the face to fully adjust. In face lifting operations, forehead lift, eyebrow lift, eyelid aesthetics, neck lift, liposuction and fat injection can be applied together.

Surgery can be performed in endoscopic methods, with small incisions of 1 to 2 millimeters and hidden under the hair. For this reason, there is no scar left after surgery. In classical methods, incisions are located in front and back of the ear, and the natural lines of the face are placed between them, so they heal and become invisible over time.

How Facelifting Can Rejuvenate Your Face?

As a result of facelifting performed with ideal planning, it is possible to achieve rejuvenation of 5 to 10 percent years. The permanence of the operation is definitely longer than the facelift band and other methods. It can be maintained for an average of up to 10 years.
