Arm / Thigh Lift Surgery

What Is Arm / Thigh Lift Surgery?

Arm lift also known as brachioplasty is one of the effective body surgery procedures used to tighten the skin of the upper arms. Excessive and rapid weight loss can lead to undesired sagging, especially in the arms and legs. While arm tightening and arm lift surgeries help to improve the appearance resulted by arm sagging and armpit sagging, leg aesthetics corrects various leg asymmetries.

How Is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?

Arm lift surgeries and arm aesthetics play a major role in correcting the problems of arm sagging, which can be developed due to weighting gain, not doing sports and aging. In arm lift surgery, the severity of sagging in the skin and thickness of subcutaneous fatty tissue determine the method to be chosen in the operation. If the patient’s skin gets loosened when they gain and lose too much weight, the thickness of the skin can be excessive. In such case, “liposuction” is applied first. Then the loosened skin is removed by surgical operation. In some people, sagging skin can only be seen under the armpit. In such case, the intervention is performed under the armpit, and the surgical scar is limited to the armpit. In some patients, this loosened skin can extend from the armpit to the elbow. In these patients, a longitudinal operation is performed on the inside of the arm. Because the surgical incision is closed with closed aesthetic stitches, there is no need to remove stitches.

The operation takes about 1 to 2 hours and performed under general anesthesia depending on the methods to be used in surgery.

What to Consider After Arm Lift Surgery?

  • The area should not be contacted with water for two days following the surgery.
  • It is recommended to use special arm corsets or elastic bandages for a while after surgery.
  • Sports activities should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.

The surgical scar is not seen in each patient in the same way. These scars are more pronounced in some patients, while they may not be visible in others. After surgery, the patient may need to restrict arm movements for some time to prevent the scars from expanding. In general, the entire recovery process takes around 2 to 3 weeks.

Why Is Leg Aesthetics Necessary?

Calf implants is the procedure designed to increase the size and shape of the calf. They are placed over the calf muscles to enhance their appearance and give them a more defined contours. Leg aesthetics may be needed due to accidents, congenital appearance disorders, contour disorders, complaints of thin/thick legs, aging, genetic predisposition, gaining and losing weight frequently, permanent consequences of polio, trauma and some other factors. Different treatment methods are applied for each condition. It is aimed to plan a surgery that is compatible with the person’s sex, body and weight in leg aesthetics.

One of the methods applied in leg aesthetics is intra-leg stretching aesthetics. Intra-leg stretching aesthetics is the most preferred method for sagging after aging and excessive weight loss and it is mostly preferred by patients who complain of their legs rubbing against each other while walking. In this operation, the sagging skin is removed from the inside of the legs with an incision that will be hidden in the groin area. Surgery scars start to get lighter in color from the second month and disappear almost completely at the end of the first year at the latest. If the sagging is severe in the front and inside of the leg, then a vertical scar on the inside of the leg up to the knee may also be necessary.

In some cases, leg shaping aesthetics can be performed by using implants to thicken the inner parts of the calf area and sometimes by filling the operation site with the patient’s own adipose tissue. Thin calves can be caused by a history of polio disease, trauma and congenital-developmental reasons. Some patients may also prefer this procedure for a much more athletic image, thus for more developed looking muscles. Implants used for calf augmentation are inserted through the inner back of the knees.

Filling application is known as non-surgical applications in thigh aesthetics. Although it does not offer a lifetime solution, its effect lasts two years. In fat injections, fat tissue is taken from another area of the patient by liposuction and injected into the necessary area. In some cases, it may be required to perform it several times to get satisfactory results with fat injection. The number of sessions required may vary depending on the structure and thinness of the leg. The operation takes about 2 to 3 hours and performed under general anesthesia.

Recovery Process in Leg Aesthetics

The recovery process can vary depending on the method that is used. In some cases, hospitalization is not required after the treatment. In some cases, it is required to stay in the hospital overnight due to general anesthesia. Also, patients are recommended to restrict some of their movements for a while in some aesthetic leg procedures. It is important to keep the legs up while resting for a few days after the operation, thus you must spend the first twenty-four hours after calf implants surgery in bed.

Patients who underwent calf implants surgery must avoid vigorous activity for about one month or longer. Avoiding long walks and sports activities for the first 2 to 3 weeks speeds up the recovery process with better success. After the treatment, swelling or bruises can be observed on the legs; however, these usually disappear within 1 to 2 weeks. It may be required to use a corset during the recovery process. The use of corsets also helps to shape the treated area more properly, reduce swelling quickly and prevent some other problems. It will be no scars from calf implants. On average most patients return back to work and normal routine within 3 to 7 days after calf implants surgery.
